Attorney Steven Bright

Steven Bright

Member/Attorney

Steven Bright is a Member of Lusk Law, LLC. Steven came to the law as a third career after working on the production side of theater and ballet for approximately 10 years, and then another 20 years in construction, both in new home construction and home improvement. Steven decided to make a large career change in his mid-40’s, wanting to take on a new challenge in life and have a more direct impact on helping people. Steven brings his extensive experience in construction, including as a licensed MHIC contractor, running a construction company, a property investment company and owning a farm with his wife, attorney, Rebekah Lusk, to his legal practice.

Steven also brings to his practice his training and years of experience working on the production side of the performing arts which often requires the accommodation and inclusion of many points of view to come to an agreement. Employing this skill set, Steven can often resolve issues or conflicts for his clients with negotiation or other alternative dispute resolution methods without the need for litigation. Working in production has also honed Steven’s ability to come at an issue or problem from many different angles before finding several different options to solve the problem or issue, while considering the needs and inputs from different stakeholders.

Understanding and navigating complicated legal issues can commonly be taxing to clients. Dealing with homeowners and clients during his construction career, Steven has developed a set of skills that helps him communicate with his clients and help dispel some of the mystery. He will help his clients determine what their goals are, what steps are needed to achieve that goal, and then explain to the client, what can often be a complicated and confusing legal process in a way the client can grasp and apply. His goal is to encourage and empower his clients to take an active role their legal needs, while feeling ownership over the outcome.

Frederick, MD Attorneys Lusk Law

Steven practices in the areas of construction law, including litigation, contract negotiations and general construction matters, real estate, land use, landlord/tenant law, general civil litigation, and estates/trusts. Steven has handled contractor/construction disputes, including MHIC hearings, latent defect cases, land use cases, and landlord tenant cases. He has handled cases in the District and Circuit Court of Maryland, as well as Administrative Hearings.  Steven’s extensive experience in construction, makes him able to both evaluate and litigate construction cases, with a knowledge and understanding of actual construction practices and the industry, that most attorney’s do not possess.

Steven also comes from a line of real estate business owners. His grandfather and grandmother had a building contractor business before both becoming real estate brokers in the College Park area.  Steven remembers many weekends spent riding around in his grandfather’s car “looking” at houses. They also ran a successful business owning and renting residential properties in the College Park area.

Steven received his Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Charleston in Charleston South Carolina where he studied theatrical production. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore and graduated Cum Laude.

In addition to being an attorney, Steven and his wife, Attorney Rebekah Lusk, also own Windy Oak Farm in Union Bridge, Maryland. The farm, which includes a 200-year-old farmhouse, was purchased in 2010 and operates a horse boarding facility. Steven helps care for the horses, manages the upkeep and maintenance of the farm, and rides and competes in the equestrian sport of dressage. Steven and Rebekah had their daughter in 2014, and Steven now balances his busy legal work and farm schedule with the demands of raising their daughter.

Steven and his family live on their farm with their dogs, cats, chickens, and horses. In his spare time, in addition to riding horses, he enjoys lots of outdoor activities, including snowboarding, swimming, running, hiking, sailing, and traveling. Steven is also a licensed private pilot and maintains his carpentry skills while restoring the 200-year-old stone farmhouse on their farm.
